Electronic Poker is a popular game that usually will be wagered on in casinos across the globe, or in your house on your computer, through a web account. The rules are very straightforward and consist of the player attempting to achieve the best assemblage of cards possible in order to win cash. In this respect it is very similar as a normal game of poker, without the interaction with any other players. Of course, techniques used in a real-life game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (whether it is tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and pushes the play button. A hand of 5 cards will then be "given out" on the screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and gamblers should now choose which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the player would like to retain, the 'hold' buttons should be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they want, from all to none.

After the bettor has selected which cards he or she would like to keep, the player will then press 'deal', at which point any new cards will be needed they will be handed out. The hand is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands listed in the pay out schedule.

Typically, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payout schedule can range from machine to machine, so that knowledgeable players are agile enough to choose the most money-making machine each instance.

After the initial round has completed, the player can either choose to continue on in an attempt to increase their earnings, or they can press the 'collect' button to retrieve any money that might have been won. Further, a few versions of the game give the enthusiast a chance to increase their winnings, in which case another round is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other varying aspects to enhance playability.
